The Afrikaner Wagon

If you are a people struggling for survival, there are two models to follow: the proto-Zionist model of linguistic revival and kibbutzes, and the Nazi model of beer halls and putsches. The fate of the Boers is demonstrative of the pitfalls of the latter model. I look at the flag of assassinated supremacist Eugene Terreblanche's movement and I see a variation on the swastika. The Boers have a case for national independence or autonomy, but they sabotage themselves by looking to the Nazi twelve-year reich instead of the Jewish millennia-long exilarchy for inspiration. So do some Israelis, unfortunately. The Guardian has an interesting article on ties between Israel and white-ruled South Africa. One man draws the inevitable comparison:
"The whites [in South Africa] always saw their fate in a way related to the fate of the Israelis because the Israelis were a white minority surrounded by 200 million fanatic Muslims assisted by communism," says Liel. "Also, there was this analysis that said Israel is a civilised western island in the midst of these 200 million barbaric Arabs and it's the same as the Afrikaners; five million Afrikaners surrounded by hundreds of millions of blacks who are also assisted by communism."

By attempting to rule over millions of Arabs in the West Bank, Israel is making the same mistake as the white regime in South Africa. In a democratic world, quantity always wins. "Greater" anything is doomed. I don't buy the Israeli apartheid argument because of the countries' different legal frameworks, but there are certainly comparisons to be made on the geopolitical if not juridical level. An example:
South Africa's borders were drawn by Afrikaners, while trekking for independence from the British and safety. Everywhere they went in numbers became South Africa. And ironically their Apartheid policy united disparate black tribes.

So too does the Israeli settlement policy unite disparate Arab tribes. Israel should be making regional inroads by emphasizing a pan-Semitic and pan-Abrahamic identity instead of carving up bantustans. Without separate states for separate nations there is only Boerdom; and Palestine should be so lucky to elect a half-retarded Zulu rapist.
