The Plot Against Romania

Besides, large-scale general plans : 1) they will seek to break the bonds between earth and heaven, doing their best to spread, on a large scale, atheistic and materialistic theories, degrading the Romanian people, or even just its leaders,...... to a people separated from God and its dead, they will kill them, not with the spear, but by cutting the roots of their spiritual life ; 2) they will then break the links of the race with the soil, material spring of its wealth, attacking nationalism and any idea of Fatherland and homeland ; determined to succeed, they will seek to seize the press ; 4) they will use any pretext, since in the Romanian people there are dissensions, misunderstandings, and quarrels, to divide them into as many antagonistic parties as possible ; 5) they will seek to monopolise more and more the means of existence of Romanians ; 6) they will systematically drive them to dissoluteness, annihilating family and moral force without forgetting to degrade and daze them through alcoholic drinks and other poisons.
- Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, Romanian fascist leader

Yeah Corneliu, international Jewry wants to destroy... Romania. Through alcoholic drinks no less! Where do these third-rate peoples get off thinking Jews, well, even think about them?

  2. Corneliu may not have believed those things. Sometimes politicians utilize anti-semitism for political purposes. The Jews can be a common enemy to unite the people against. A people (a tribe, a nation) is defined and distinguished according to what it disaproves of and what it hates, who what it is unlike. Corneliu, like other "Traditionalist" and fascist leaders liked to use Jews and Judaism to outline who they are and who or what they are against. For example Hitler said "The Jew is the opposite of the Aryan", and so he created two things when he said this: The Jew - weak, materialistic, selfish, and the Aryan - strong, virile, spiritual, sacrificial. There is no truth or basis to this, it is simply a clever and diabolical political utility or method to outline who you are and who you are not, and who or what the enemy is. So Corneliu outlined his people the Romanians - bound to the earth and to heavan, family people, and the Jews can be conviniently utilized to outline what they are against, and the forces that are working against them.

Also, when it comes to anti-Jewish conspiracy theories, I doubt that most of these people actually believe them. It's like this - you hate the Jews for whatever stupid reason, and you want to hurt them as much as possible. Ah, I know, a conspiracy theory! A conspiracy theory is a very effective and efficient way of fueling hatred against Jews. And than of course some of those people will believe their own lies, why not, it helps the cause of eradicating the Jews if you go the extra step to actually believe the lie you made up. The people who truly believe the conspiracy theories, and there are many of those as well, well they are just the idiots and schizophrenics of the world. The person who wrote "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" was probably thinking day and night to himself "how can I really hurt the Jews, in 1000 words or less?" He discovered a people known for their intellectual tradition and tribalism can be prey to conspiracy mongering, and he was right. It's a good, efficient, effective way to (metaphorically speaking) stab a Jew in the chest, which is all he wants to do, b/c he has some hatred towards Jews for one reason or another.

  3. I would not have known even that Conreliu was talking about Jews if you hadn't pointed that out in your commentary, there is no mention of the "the Jews" in his description of the Romanians and the forces that he is opposed to and fighting against. He says its "the Jooz" that are the enemy because it is necesarry to attach a physical target to what you are opposed to, it is easier to attack a people than to attack forces and concepts. The Jews can also be utilized as something to rally the Romanian people against a dangerous enemy. In writing that, he has described the Romanians, what the Romanians are against and what they are not, specified an enemy to rally against, and pin-pointed the source of the forces that are to be fought against (the Jews). So does it matter to him that the Jews are in fact not the true enemy? They can be utilized in this way to achieve his desired outcome, so who cares if they are not in fact the enemy. His real enemy was of course the march of modernity, mainly it was liberal capitalism, and the effect that technology has on traditional socieities. Can you rally the people against these things? Not really, it is much easier to outline your people and what they are against and a physical enemy that is the source of the decline of your society. It's a more expedient method, it's efficient and effective - just say here we are the Romanians, this is our objective, here is what we are against, the enemy are these Jews, and you have a potent formula for a political movement that can achieve the aims/results of a group like the Iron Guard.
